Instant Affiliate Website - Free?

I don't know how many of you are aware of the recently (Dec 08 - Jan 09) launched Instant Affiliate Website program? This is a major undertaking from Mike Filsaime - Internet Marketing Guru.

The premise is to provide new and old internet marketers with a free affiliate website which is modelled on sites similar to this very site (Blogger). His template (it would seem) is the easy functions as provided by Google with Blogger by being able to quickly drag and drop ad content into pages which 'primarily' display internet marketing product reviews. For ease, the products for review are already provided; your input is to expand on these reviews or leave them as is. You can also add your own products. Totally up to you. This Instant Affiliate Website (IAW) is promoted as free; a joint venture between you and one of the gurus of Internet Marketing.

It disheartens me with the liberal use of 'free' in Internet Marketing and is even more galling coming from one of the role models of the industry. Don't get me wrong here, I have respect for Mr Filsaimes' other ventures.
His Paydotcom is an excellent venture, I also have some of his products which are invaluable internet tools and his newsletter is informative.
I don't even have a real problem with the fact that IAW contains all his products for review. The fact is it gives new and old Marketers a huge range of tried and tested products to gain commissions from.

So, what am I saying?
As I said earlier - Free Website, not true. Couple that with the horrendously convoluted sign up and purchase processes Mr Filsaime has become well known for and you have a nightmare.
The 'free' pitch with the website is because you are able to gain access to this venture if you are a subscriber to either of his clubs - 7Figure or GetMySoftwareFree. As a subscriber you receive his magazine 'marketingdotcom' for $39.95 plus shipping and handling. If you are not a subscriber then you need to join and pay the monthly fee to get involved in the 'free' IAW program. His magazine stipulates that 'this access (to IAW) is our gift to you as long as you remain a member of this newsletter. No word on how you can then retain a stream of income you have been enticed to pursue. What about if you are prepared to pay hosting? No information forthcoming! SO! Free site, free hosting, free updates and free access to traffic generation all for the price of a 16 page monthly magazine Plus shipping and handling.

OK, so you've probably thought...... well you are getting the site, hosting, access for the price of the mag, seems reasonable. He doesn't have to give anyone a chance to make money off him. I agree....to a point. My question is, are internet marketers just considered to be bargain basement buyers? Would this offer be any less legitimate if prospects knew they were going to have to pay a monthly fee to joint venture with him?
The other point is, why is he going to the expense of producing a hard copy magazine and shipping it (at a cost to the customer) around the world? Isn't his longevity in the industry a testament to the legitimacy of electronically downloadable products and software? Especially when his customers are internet workers conversant in the advantages of instant access to information, products and software. Hell, he produces products and sells them that way, why does he think we need to feel this magazine? Surely his costs could be reduced AND therefore the cost of the IAW program.

If you have ever tried to purchase something from Mr Filsaime, you'll understand the term viral marketing. It is not an easy task to purchase the product you were interested in and move on. I've been involved in retail and internet marketing for over 25 years and am fully conversant with the term add ons. It is an excellent way to maximise profit and expose potential customers to your range of products. Sadly IM is becoming riddled with ridiculously convoluted sales processes. Mr Filsaime is a master at this, to the point where you get hijacked by so many 'are you sure you want to pass up this one time offer' that the customer is confused as to whether they've actually been taken to the right area to purchase or download. Lesson?
Simplify or lose the initial sale.

Last point! If you have signed up for 7Figure or GetMySoftwareFree and receive his newsletter but didn't take advantage of his IAW offer at the time, then all is well because your login details are the same for signing on to IAW, convenient link inside to free IAW user panel. Good luck trying to get the link to work (doesn't recognise login details) AND good luck getting assistance from the 'help' desk. Personally I gave up, I may be on the other side of the world, but dealing with Mr Filsaimes' 'help' is not effective time management in my book. It was easier to just cancel my subscription; $4 a page (with exchange rate) for a 16 page magazine is not good buying without the added value. Pity; it did initially seem like an interesting stream of income. Good luck to those who'll no doubt have success with the venture.
I congratulate Mr Filsaime on his internet marketing ability, product development and generosity in being prepared to joint venture with others, especially newbies - whos' only offering is to assist him to broaden his market for his products, all sound business principles. But what has happened to the internet marketing tenet that your offer should be clear, concise and as brief as possible or the prospect will click on something else? Is this convoluted sales process (where it can take up to 20 minutes) the way of the future, or the product of one marketer trying to throw everything at you in case you never see any of his offers again?

Unfortunately many people are forced into a career change by recession. However, the light at the end of the tunnel is the many industries which remain relatively, or in some cases completely unaffected by economic downturn. A positive attitude and feeling of self worth is essential, because you may need to retrain to enter these industries. Hasn't the world become a complex place?
Man (You & Me) are now at fault for the downfall of civilisation as we knew it!
I say knew it, because we are constantly being bombarded with the so called ramifications of the way we live our lives. Credit squeeze, high fuel costs, carbon footprints, food price rises &/or shortages, etc.
I got sick of all this 12 months ago, for a number of reasons. I couldn't get a straight answer about any or all of these 'problems' that I'd caused. I like to be informed, however the mainstream media was - and still is - regurgitating press releases from self interested Lobby groups and vote - buying politicians who've been told by both the lobbyists and their own spin doctors that the world will end in 10 minutes and if they don't act now, they'll get the blame, so place the blame where they can revenue raise from the public guilt.

I know some of you fervently believe man is killing the planet, climate change, global warming , etc. But ask yourself, how do you know? Who told you? It's fine to have your view (in fact it's imperative) but in this day and age it is so easy to have an informed view.
There are always at least two sides to anything, so hit your search engine and look up global warming, carbon credit - whatever - and dig a bit deeper than the first 10 results. Read what the other side thinks. Read what the popular press isn't telling you in their 8 second sound bite, or 3 word headline.
Ask yourself why the written press doesn't give simple sources -that you can actually look up. When you are quoted statistics, ask why there is no footnote to qualify where the statistics came from, what was the sample size? Who commissioned the survey in the first place? Is the research even finished yet? Is this just the preliminary results they HAVE to get published to ensure they will continue to get funding? A dead give away for that is if the article uses words such as: may, could, possible, likely, etc. This means THEY aren't sure enough to be definitive, yet the tone of the article is telling you that YOU are at fault, at risk, must change.
Lazy journalism is as much at fault as the rest. Too many column inches, minutes in talk back, minutes in current affairs shows to fill. They can run tickers down the bottom of a sport event or 24 hour news channel, but apparently not on a news item leading us to the source of where this horrific information was sourced.
Why?
Because if you have a balanced view and can see all sides (which doesn't mean your view is wrong) you won't need them and they then can't manipulate your view, whether they're a media outlet, politician, spin doctor or lobbyist.

So give them the flick!
Think of the global situation which worries or intrigues you and use the tool all these manipulators are afraid of - the internet. All of these world threatening issues have to be published (academics, researchers, etc) have to publish results. Show the mass media you're smarter than they give you credit for and look at the raw data, you'll be surprised at what gets 'cherry picked' for your consumption.

I don't see the Doom & Gloom, I cancelled the mass media because I don't want THEIR view, I want yours and mine.

Despite the well known fact that almost 99% of home business's fail, there are still many success stories. As a future business owner, it is up to you to find and investigate those success stories. Find the business's similar to one that you are looking to start but have stood the test of time and have achieved a level of success that would satisfy you.
If you can, find two or three of these business's and really zoom in on them. Find out everything you can about them. Everything from how they got started to upcoming future plans. It wouldn't hurt to even become a customer (try out their products or services) to get a feel of how these business's operate. Doing this will help you see where you can improve your business and even make it better than the ones started before yours.
If you can really find out what makes these successful home business's tick, there is a very good chance that you will be able to duplicate that formula making your efforts a little easier. Something that can be of great assistance to you would be to get a chance to talk to the people who are running these established home business's.
If you do get the opportunity to speak with the owner('s) do not waste their time or be misleading. Tell them exactly who you are and what you are trying to do. They may not tell you anything or they may walk you through everything that you could possibly need to know.
